Google receives over 63,000 searches per second on any given day. Yes! You read it right, this translates to around 2 trillion searches per year.
This shows users trust search engine especially Google and how important
it is to rank your website in the top position of the search engine result page (SERP). Probably this is the reason why SEO is a key factor of Digital
Marketing. Before we share with you some simple ways to optimize your website, it is very important we know how Google ( or any other search engine) actually ranks a page.
Primarily Google (or any other search engine) performs 4 activities – 1. Crawling 2.Caching 3.Indexing 4.Ranking
> Crawling: Google crawlers (google bots) crawls millions of websites every day. In a website it first crawls the most accessible page – say the Home Page. If your site is well organized and allows the crawler to easily navigate from home page to service page, product page and back to the home page. So it is important to have a google and user-friendly navigation.
> Caching: Caching – Once Google crawls your website content, say Home Page and Services Page it keeps a snapshot of everything that is read into its own server. This is known as Caching.
> Indexing: Now that Google has millions and millions of pages in its server, it analyzes the content of the page, catalogues images and video files embedded on the page and stores the information in the Google Index (HUGE database)
>Ranking: Now when a user types a query, Google tries to find the most relevant answer from its index. Google’s AI algorithms run through the index databases and pick the most relevant websites which answer the query.
Well, that is a short story that described in a few words how search engines like Google rank a website in SERP.
